Apologies for the late Blog....We are still having problems with our wifi so doing videos and pictures on my website and other updates have been difficult! Anyway back to last weekend and, it’s safe to say Milli and I got our 2014 eventing season off to a good start at Munstead last weekend. She felt great in the dressage, a little unsure being on grass for the first time as with the rubbish weather we’ve had recently I've been unable to school her out in our fields to help prepare her but she coped well. Her test was accurate and rhythmical which the judge liked and scored us 33.5 which put us in the top half after dressage…..not a bad start . Next was SJing and it looked a straight forward course, but seemed to be one of those courses that when ridden you either jump clear or have 4 faults and then the other rounds where the riders just don’t finish…luckily we were one of the few clears which was nice. Milli jumped a super round and made it feel very easy! With nothing to add to our dressage score the competitive side of me was starting to come out and I was determined for a good XC round. It was a nice course but there were plenty of challenging questions in it…..corners, skinnies, angled combinations and a drop jump into the water so I had to remember I was riding a 5 year old. We set of at a nice pace but I didn’t want to put too much pressure on her and run her too fast so let her go at her own speed. She made nothing of the course, taking all the straight routes and making it feel like a 75cm course! I was deciding which route to take into the water once I had started as if she felt confident I was going to drop in……we approached the water confidently, I was trying to bring her back to trot so she could have plenty of time to see it but Milli took it into her own hands and judged it perfectly out of a nice canter, drop jumped in nicely and continued onto the next fence, like a pro . We finished the course clear and she still felt like she had plenty of running in her which is good. After sorting her out we headed over to look at the scores and she was easily inside the time to finish on her dressage score in 7th place. I was chuffed, I couldn’t have asked for a better run, especially for her first run so lets hope we’ve started the season as we mean to go on! She had a nice day in the field relaxing in the sun on Monday and both Milli and Roxie had physio treatments from our super sponsor, Sofia Graham, at the beginning of the week so we are fit and ready for our next event, Goring Heath tomorrow. Milli is having another BE100 run before going Novice at South of England in April and Roxie is having her first run around the Novice as Tweseldown was cancelled and then she’s going Intermediate at South of England in April. It is great to be back in the full swing of things and lets hope tomorrow is another good run for Milli and a good start to the season for Roxie.....wish us luck!!
