Well, the long awaited day had arrived......Milli's first EVER one day event! As well as being incredibly excited, I was quite nervous as she has been showing huge amounts of potential so I didn't want to let her down..... We arrived at Chilham and unloaded them. Milli remained incredibly calm having a bit of a look around and then tucking into her haynet! Both my sisters were competing there as well so it was all set to be a busy day for us all! Our dressage times were all very similar, which I thought may unsettle Milli slightly if her friends left her but she didn't bother at all! It takes an awful lot to upset Milli! She worked really well considering it was ridiculously hot with no breeze and it was her first time on grass at competitions. There are obviously areas to improve on, but she is only 4, so I think I can allow that!! I got her back to the trailer and gave her a wash down in a attempt to cool her down a bit as we had a slight break before SJ. I got her tacked her up for SJ and went over to warm up. I did as little as possible in the warm up as it continued to get hotter and hotter! She was rather lively in the warm up and was jumping really well so in we went. Milli was like a pro and jumped a super clear :) We had a quick change of clothes and boots and set of to the XC warm up. Whilst we were warming up excitement got the better of Milli and she kept bucking whilst we were cantering around! We then went over to the start and off we went.... Although it was only a BE80 course it had everything in it so was quite challenging for a young horse and because of the weather being so warm I just let her run at ther own speed. She popped round the course incredibly well and stayed in a really good rythm all the way round. I was chuffed to bits with her :) After getting Milli all washed of and sorted out we went over to check out the scores......Milli went inside the time XC and was lying in the lead!!! But there were only half the scores up so I wasn't getting too excited. I was thrilled with finishing on my dresage score so getting placed would be a bonus. Because of the heat we decided to take the horses home as we had been there quite a while. A few of my Clients were competing at Chilham too and Madeleine Tomlin, Sarah Rosser and Mary Rosser were all placed in their sections! Great results, and the news got even better when I found out the Milli won her section!!!! I was over the moon and to be honest it still hasn't sunk in.....not that long ago Milli was a small, cute little foal and now she is a big grown up horsey out eventing! I am so excited about our future together now :)
