Non-horsey shenanigans & pole work clinics.....

Apologies for the lack of updates over the last few weeks! There has been so much going on, and quite a lot of non-horsey things which is very unusual for me!! My brother got married at the end of October and we had family come from far a wide, with some staying with us for a few days before and after the wedding so there was lots of late nights and plenty of food eaten that's for sure!

On the horsey front, things a been a bit quiet for a number of reasons. Roxie has been having a bit of time off over the last few weeks following various discussions with our vet and she has been having some treatment for suspected gastirc ulcers. I was looking at having her scoped to find out for definite but after a lengthy discussion with my vet we made the decision to make some changes to help her as starving her for the time required before a scope could do more harm than good if she was suffering from any gastric discomfort. Since making just a few simple changes she is already looking a much happier and more comfortable horse. She has still being doing the odd little bit of work, mainly hacking and then the weekend before last I took her to a local polework clinic which she thoroughly enjoyed! My control was lacking at some times as polework has never being Roxie most favourite thing so there was lots of rushing and I think she jumped more poles than she stepped over but she enjoyed it which is what is most important 😊
Milli on the other hand has been going great guns, well until the week before last anyway 🙈 After weeks of walk work and slowly introducing trot work we were soon cantering and last month I took Milli to the polework clinic with Mary Coleman. Milli went amazingly and considering she hadn't been out for quite a few months I was amazed at how well she behaved!! It felt great to have her back out again and I was looking forward to continuing with her fitness work and a few days later I went to ride and put some poles out in the school to do with her and was thinking about doing our first few jumps again but Milli soon put a stop to this! She didn't feel 100% and it turns out she has tweaked something in her back which she must have done whilst having a whoolie in the field! After a quiet week or so we have started some walk work again out hacking and she is feeling a lot better now so hopefully this continues!
Now the clocks have changed and the temperatures have dropped it is very clear that winter is almost here and although it is a little frustrating that things haven't quite gone to plan with the horses recently at least we aren't missing out on having fun in the sun! I do have to admit though I'm very much looking forward to getting back out competing in the not to distant future, hopefully with both Roxie and Milli back fighting fit 🐴
